HEMANT MADUGIRI

I recently concluded a 3-day workshop with Hemant. He had just returned to India after 25 years abroad, so understandably, everything felt a bit overwhelming. This was his first-ever walk through Chandni Chowk—chaotic, colourful, loud, and absolutely unapologetic.

We walked, we talked, we drank endless chai. Somewhere between the conversations and the crowds, we made photographs. I could feel him settling into the rhythm of the street, finding his footing, and beginning to trust his instincts.

Hemant had some very kind words to say about the experience—and more importantly, he created an incredible body of work. Watching that shift happen is exactly why I love teaching.

“Recently, I participated in a three-day one-on-one street photography workshop with Komal Bedi Sohal. Having resided abroad for over 18 years, primarily capturing street photographs in the United States, I felt a bit lost and overwhelmed when I walked the streets of Delhi.

Consequently, I reached out to Komal to inquire if she would be willing to share her insights and thought process on how she sees the world around her. Specifically, I sought her insights on how she effectively isolates subjects, constructs compelling narratives amidst the chaotic environment of Old Delhi’s bustling streets and markets.

The discussions on the surrounding during the photowalk and the subsequent afternoon critique sessions were both productive and enlightening. I highly recommend that individuals with a passion for street photography seize the opportunity to attend a workshop with Komal.”
