Komal Bedi Sohal is a street and documentary photographer based in New Delhi, India. Her work centres on the unscripted moments of everyday life, with a specific focus on marginalised and often overlooked communities.

She came to photography after three decades in advertising and design, bringing a trained eye for composition to images that deliberately resist construction. Where her earlier career was spent building pictures, her photography is committed to finding them.

Two recent bodies of work define her documentary practice. Chola Maati traces the rituals of the Pardhan Gond community from birth to death; it was published by Mapin in 2025 and shown as a solo exhibition at Espace Cinko, Paris and the Sarmaya Art Foundation, Mumbai. Every Smile Belongs, commissioned by Smile Train India to mark twenty-five years of its cleft-care program, portrays children before and after surgery. It was exhibited as a solo show at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, in 2025.

Her photographs have been exhibited in New York, Paris, London, Brussels, Rome, Venice, Menorca, Ballarat, Mumbai and New Delhi. In 2024 she won the La Vie en Bleu International Photography Residency in Nice, France, exhibiting at La Gare du Sud. She has been a finalist and a special mention in Streets of the World at the International Street Photo Festival, Rome, and a special mention at the Brussels Street Photography Festival. Her work has appeared in Lens Culture Editors' Picks, Women Street Photographers, and was selected as a Master Shot by Leica Fotografie International.

She has photographed and designed two additional books: Circle of Love (2024), commissioned by The Happy School, and Dreamkeeper (2019), a self-published ensemble of poetry and photography.

She volunteers as a photography teacher in under-resourced schools across the Nilgiris, encouraging students to look closely and appreciate the ordinary life around them.
